Oregon Middle School Cross Country State Championship 2009
Portland, Oregon. East/West Sylvan Middle School team and parents are proud to host the 2009 Oregon Middle School Cross Country Championships. Runners, grade 6-8, are invited to compete in the 3rd annual State Cross Country Championship. The meet will be held on Saturday, October 31 at Fernhill Park located in North Portland. This event is open to all Middle School athletes regardless of affiliation with an organized team.
Previous Middle School State meets have been held in Warrenton and Bandon. This year, the event moves to the Portland area, and West Sylvan is pleased to announce an exciting new format that includes four races: separate boys and girls SUPERCHAMPS races and separate boys and girls CHAMPS races. The new races provide an opportunity for both elite and emergent racers.
SUPERCHAMPS races will be held with a maximum field of 225 runners. Up to 25 teams may register. In addition, up to 50 individual runners that meet time standards may participate. No time standards are required for teams or for individuals that run as part of a team. Teams consist of the top 7 runners from each school. One team per school may register for the SUPERCHAMPS race. Race standards for SUPERCHAMPS individuals are 12:00 minutes for boys, 13:00 minutes for girls and will be based on best athletic.net results for 3,000 meter races.
The CHAMPS race will be capped at 300 runners so please register early! Teams or individuals may enter; teams are comprised of 7 runners. No time standards are required for individuals or for teams. If space is available after October 18, more than one team per school may register for the CHAMPS race.
Registration for individuals and teams can be made by clicking on the links to the right or by FAX. Registrations must be submitted NO LATER than Sunday, October 18. Entry fees are $5 for individuals, $35 for teams.
The fun 3,000 meter course is primarily flat with some challenging hills. The course has been designed for good viewing and fun running. Racing flats or spikes allowed.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the race site. Post-race snacks will be available for runners.
On street parking is available. Carpooling is encouraged.
